Shift At Midnight Wiki

All endings: True Ending, Grave Decision & Empty Home

Shift At Midnight saves its biggest choice for the end of Shift 12. Whether you call Sheriff Clyde Dawson — and whether your personal funds cover a $250 pet surgery by the close of Shift 13 — routes you into one of three finales. Store balance and shopping credit do not pay the bill; only personal funds count.

Spoiler warning

This page spoils all three endings, the Clyde phone call, and the Dentist finale. Finish your first Story run first if you want surprises intact — then come back to clean up the other two endings and their hidden Steam achievements.

Ending overview

EndingCall Clyde after Shift 12?Personal funds at Shift 13Outcome
True EndingNo≥ $250Pet survives surgery; Clyde lives
Grave DecisionYesNot requiredPet survives; Clyde dies
Empty HomeNo< $250Pet dies; Clyde lives

Each ending unlocks a matching hidden Steam achievement. You need at least three Story clears (or a save backup before the Shift 12 call) to collect all three — see our achievements guide.

True Ending — keep Clyde and your pet

Refuse to call Clyde after Shift 12, then finish Shift 13 with at least $250 in personal funds so you can pay for the surgery yourself. Both the pet and Clyde survive.

On the final night, hostiles attack the shop and the Dentist arrives. Shoot him when you get a clean window, run the creepy chase segment, and Clyde handles the Dentist in the closing cutscene.

  • Track personal funds separately from store cash — upgrades and trap buys from the shop do not drain the surgery pool the same way personal spending does.
  • Avoid killing human customers; mistaken executions tank earnings and shop rating.
  • Keep shop rating high (restock, clean, deal with rats) so customers buy more.
  • Spin the prize wheel with collected tokens for cash spikes — successful money prizes help close the gap.
  • Live rats tossed in the dumpster pay more than corpses; stain cleanup and trash still add pennies that stack across thirteen nights.

August 21 equalized product prices, which makes the $250 target less dependent on unlucky shelf RNG. You still need commissions, odd jobs, and a personal-funds habit — advanced tips.

Grave Decision — save the pet, lose Clyde

Call Sheriff Clyde after Shift 12 so he covers the surgery. Your pet lives, but Clyde is attacked and killed by the Dentist after leaving the shop. You still fight the Dentist and run the finale sequence; Clyde appears in the closing beat even though he already died for the call.

This is the “easy money” ending if you undersaved personal funds but still want the companion to survive into post-story / Endless unlocks tied to a completed campaign.

Empty Home — spare Clyde, lose the pet

Do not call Clyde, and finish Shift 13 with less than $250. Clyde survives the night; your pet does not get surgery and dies. The Dentist fight still plays out — shoot him, run the path, and let Clyde finish the threat in the cutscene.

Use this route when hunting the matching hidden achievement after you already have True Ending or Grave Decision.

Do not shoot human Clyde

Clyde visits the shop across earlier shifts and can appear as a doppelganger. Confirm ID and behaviour before you execute — killing the real sheriff can soft-lock or spoil ending routes. Treat him like any VIP customer: computer cross-check first, gun second.

Pair this discipline with the doppelganger detection and emotion detector loops.

How to bank $250 for True Ending

Base wages across thirteen nights alone will not cover the full medical arc. Community consensus targets roughly $310 total personal spend when you count early vet bills plus the final surgery — plan commission income, not just the nightly wage.

  • Sales commission — personal cuts from store sales are the main filler beyond daily wages.
  • Odd jobs — clean stains, dump trash/limbs, mop cockroaches, and especially deposit live rats.
  • Prize wheel — spend tokens for cash prizes once cosmetic hats are unlocked (extra hat hits refund tokens).
  • Delay vanity buys — skip optional decor while chasing True Ending if the personal balance is short heading into Shift 10–13.

Frequently asked questions

Does store money pay for the pet surgery? Reveal answer.

No. Only personal funds count toward the $250 surgery. Keep store cash for traps and arsenal while banking personal earnings for the ending.

Can I get all endings in one save? Reveal answer.

One playthrough yields one ending. Back up before the Shift 12 Clyde call, or run Story Mode three times with different Clyde/funds combinations.

Do endings unlock Endless Mode? Reveal answer.

Completing Story Mode (any ending) unlocks Endless Mode beta. True Ending and Grave Decision both keep the pet alive for post-story companionship depending on your route.
